Introductory Flights

Take an intro flight to see if flying is for you!

You will learn the basics of how to do a pre-flight inspection, how the flight controls work, and how to perform the basic flight maneuvers.

YOU will take the controls on this 30 min. flight and fly the airplane under the careful supervision of the flight instructor.

Total cost varies depending on the airplane used.  $30 for the Instructor plus the cost of the airplane.  (Approximately $85 total using the Piper Warrior in Crookston, MN)

LSA - Light Sport Aircaft

The newest certificate, it is designed for the fair weather flyer and,  in most cases,  only requires a valid driver's license rather than a medical certificate.  So no FAA physical is needed.  Sport pilots are restriced to small LSA - Light Sport Airplanes which carry no more than 1 passenger.  There are a wide variety of LSA aircraft from "flying lawnchairs" to gyrocopters, to traditional aiplanes like Piper Cubs and homebuilts.

  • Stage I - Learning to safely and competently operate the airplane.  At the end of this stage you will "solo"  or fly the plane by yourself.
  • Stage II - Learning advanced maneuvers - Short field takeoffs and landings
  • Stage III - Preparing for the Sport Pilot Checkride

The FAA requires a total of 20hrs of flight time before taking the final checkride.  The low cost of these airplanes makes the training very affordable.

You will also need to:

  • Take a computerized knowledge test
  • Take a practical test with a local examiner.
  • While these may seem intimidating now, through study and practice, these should be no problem for most people.

** I am currently trying to locate a LSA aircraft in our area which might be used for instruction.  Stay tuned! **
